This event is part of the ongoing 3rd annual West Harlem Summer Jazz Festival, which lasts May 2nd through September 13th; this festival presents FREE live outdoor concerts, provided through a collaboration between the West Harlem Arts Alliance (WHAA) West Harlem Development Corporation (WHDC), NYC Parks, Harlem Late Night Jazz, the National Jazz Museum in Harlem (NJMH), IAMCHELSEAIAM, and the Montefiore Park Neighborhood Association.
Calvin Sexton is an industry-renowned trombonist, composer, and music director based in New York City. Hailing from Birmingham, Alabama, the jazz, funk and soul multi-hyphenate is best known as the leader of the Inner City All Stars, an ensemble he developed from 1996 up to the 2020s. Sexton studied music performance at the University of North Texas, completing his degree in 2003; since then, he has established himself as a mainstay on the New York scene, and has racked up numerous accomplishments and received many accolades.
Funding for the summer-long presentation of free Jazz in West Harlem Parks comes from the West Harlem Development Corporation and the NYC Green Fund of the City Parks Foundation.
