NJMH Showcase: Candice Hoyes

Vocalist and composer Candice Hoyes and her quintet explore the urgency need of deepened compassion and communal love legacies through songs of liberation, protest, and rebirth. Influenced by Billie Holiday, Phyllis Hyman and Nina Simone, Hoyes’s style and substance likewise defies category, gravitating to rare selections and revealing her private soul in original material that previews her first solo album.
About the artist:
Candice Hoyes is an award-winning artist “with the most eclectic and delicious voice ever.” (Jazz FM UK) Highly sought after, Ms. Hoyes has recorded with Philip Glass, Wynton Marsalis and Lin Manuel Miranda. As an interpreter and composer, her “mesmerizing, moody” delivery mines a cultural history that’s “surprising, layered, elemental, and deep.” (BOMB Magazine)
