At 96 years of age, jazz legend Sheila Jordan is releasing a new album, Portrait Now (Dot Time Records, 2025), that harkens back to her first release, Portrait of Sheila (Blue Note, 1962). It features Jordan on vocals, Roni Ben-Hur on guitar and Harvie S on bass–a trio that has been performing regularly for a few years, demonstrating undeniable chemistry. The album revisits some of the songs from the 1962 recording, but also sports some new renditions, including a gorgeous version of the Chet Baker classic, “The Touch Of Your Lips.” Portrait Now is Jordan’s 22nd album as a leader in over 50 years, in addition to numerous appearances as featured vocalist. An innovative and iconoclastic musical figure, Jordan is recipient of numerous awards, including being named an NEA Jazz Master in 2012.
