One of the angels of the Jazz Foundation of America, Dr. Frank Forte has helped hundreds of sick musicians get well at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, ever since Dizzy Gillespie asked him, in 1993, to please take care of the musicians. The Dizzy Gillespie Memorial Fund has since treated numerous jazz greats, with Dr. Frank Forte at its helm for nearly two decades. This special event will feature Dr. Forte in conversation with musician and author Muneer Nasser, whose father, the legendary bassist Jamil Nasser, played a critical role in the early days of the JFA – EHMC collaboration. It will also feature short musical selections from Nasser on trumpet and Grammy-nominated pianist Benito Gonzalez on piano.
This event is free and open to the public!
This event will also stream on the Jazz Foundation and Jazz Museum Facebook pages and the Museum YouTube Channel.
This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and by the Howard Gilman Foundation.
