Live from Harlem – JFA Presents: Muneer Nasser Quartet

Trumpeter, composer, jazz historian, and author Muneer Nasser was initially inspired by his father, bassist Jamil Nasser, and by the rich musical landscape of New York City. After attending the International Art of Jazz Workshop and studying with the greats like George Coleman and Jimmy Owens, he enrolled in Howard University, which placed him in a thriving DC jazz scene. He performed at Blues Alley, Kennedy Center, and Lincoln Theater with Buck Hill, Larry Willis, Keter Betts, and Butch Warren, before earning his degree and going on tours of Europe and North Africa. He has since performed and composed extensively, while also teaching and publishing “Upright Bass: the Musical Life & Legacy of Jamil Nasser.” In addition to a quartet performance, this event will feature a special interview with Dr. Frank Forte, about the origins of the partnership between Jazz Foundation of America and Englewood Hospital, in which Jamil Nasser played an important role.

This event is free and open to the public!

This event will also stream on the Jazz Foundation and Jazz Museum Facebook pages and the Museum YouTube Channel.

This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and by the Howard Gilman Foundation.
