Axel Tosca Trio featuring Xiomara Laugart
“A Cuban jazz pianist who is one of New York City’s best young timba musicians” (New York Latin Culture Magazine), Axel Tosca leads a trio that blends progressive Jazz, Cuban Timba, and R&B, with a dash of Hip-Hop. Since its founding in 2018, this group has performed at the NYC Winter Jazzfest, Blue Note-Tokyo, Club Metro-Kyoto, Dizzy’s Club NYC, Birdland, NuBlu Jazz Festival, Minton’s PlayHouse, Polyfold Concert Series, The Queens Library and The Urby. For this event they are joined by Tosca’s mother, famed Cuban Trova singer Xiomara Laugart. A founding member of the renowned latin fusion band Yerba Buena, Laugart also played the lead role in the 2007 Off-Broadway musical Celia: The Life and Music of Celia Cruz.
This event is virtual only and will stream on the Jazz Foundation and Jazz Museum Facebook pages and the Museum YouTube Channel.
This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and by the Howard Gilman Foundation.
