National Jazz Museum in Harlem

July 16 – Jorge Sylvester Ace Collective
Jorge Sylvester’s ACE Collective is a sextet of established world-renowned improvising musicians that specialize in connecting the dots between Afro-Caribbean rhythms and the progressive jazz tradition. Original, new and experimental, the music is a highly rhythmic and spiritually motivated compositional journey through the various cultures that make up the Caribbean Islands, encompassing their significance and contribution to present-day advanced musical concepts in jazz and avant-garde/free music. Vocal Artist Nora McCarthy uses the “word” in the form of poetry and lyrics to convey each song’s spiritual and historical message. Bandleader Jorge Sylvester, born in Panama and educated at Panama Conservatory of Music, the University of Panama, and SUNY New Paltz, is known for blending African-Caribbean Rhythms and new music, transforming colors into sounds and sounds into textures.
