Ras Chemash
Ras Chemash is a singer and holistic healer who uses the mediums of music and culinary arts to make our world a better place. Born in the Bronx, he was influenced by his mother, who pushed education and the arts, and played the great singers in the home. He moved to Atlanta in 1994 and joined the Atlanta Community Jazz Chorus, directed by Rev. Dwight Andrews, and in 2001 opened a jazz club / vegan restaurant called the Lush Life Cafe. During these years he was dubbed the ‘Singing Chef’, and also worked with saxophonist Bilal Sunni-Ali in Gil Scott-Heron’s Midnight Band. After a stint in New Orleans, Ras moved back to NYC in 2011 and has performed in major venues, jazz festivals, and black tie affairs. He has worked in two off-Broadway plays, performed on the west coast, and released a CD–2016’s Slicing and Dicing, Singing and Swinging. May the triumphant journey of the Singing Chef continue in a world that needs a full dose of healing!
