Camila Cortina Trio: Women Composers in Jazz – Afro-Latin Connections

This show is part of our month-long Celebrating the Afro-Latin Roots of Jazz series.  The 2023 series is curated by trumpeter and bandleader, Kali Rodriguez-Peña.

Camila Cortina celebrates the music of women composers in jazz and its impact on her original work. As a Cuban female pianist and composer living away from her home country, she explores how studying the Afro-Latin roots of jazz and its applications in the selected repertoire has pathed her way through improvised music and finding her artistic voice.
