Soul of Jazz in Conversation: Camille Thurman and Dr. Peter Archer

When Disney and Pixar started exploring how to tell the story of Joe Gardner for the movie SOUL, they started visiting middle schools in New York City looking for a real-life music teacher that could inspire the story tellers.  They found Dr. Peter Archer, and the rest was history.  Dr. Archer helped shape the character of Joe, much like he shaped so many young musicians in his long career as a middle school music teacher.  One of Dr. Archer’s students was Camille Thurman, whose path to becoming a professional saxophonist and vocalist had it’s own unique path.

This conversation will explore themes around mentorship, education, balancing your art and earning money, and finding your path.

The event will be moderated by TV/radio personality, podcaster, and lover of people and music, Keanna Faircloth.
