Lil Hardin Armstrong: Before and After Satchmo

Lil Hardin Armstrong has long been associated with the epochal work of her husband, Louis. What is much less remarked upon is her life and career before and after the years she spent with Armstrong in the 1920s. Please join us for a look at the life of this remarkable woman, including:

  • a detailed panel presentation
  • extraordinarily rare recordings and film footage
  • Excerpts from her recorded autobiography

There will be live music from the vocal wunderkind Ekep Nkwelle, who will join NJMH Senior Scholar Loren Schoenberg and acclaimed Louis Armstrong biographer Ricky Riccardi in discussion and reflection on Lil Hardin Armstrong’s remarkable career.

This program is supported in part by a grant from The Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation, Inc.
