Pianist and composer Elmo Hope was friends with Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk and many of the young musicians in the 1950s and early 60s NYC scene. His compositions were instrumental in shaping the sound of that era, but his story is not shared as widely as his peers, in part, because of his early passing in 1966 at age 43.
To celebrate the centennial of his birth, pianist Bertha Hope, who was married to Elmo, will present an evening of music celebrating the compositions of her partner, collaborator, and friend.
