A neighborhood legend in Sugar Hill, Marjorie Eliot exemplifies “playing from the heart.” Accomplished as an actress and playwright as well as a pianist, she is best known for welcoming listeners into her apartment every Sunday since 1992, in celebration of life. For just as long, Parlor Entertainment, which she runs alongside her son, pianist / vocalist Rudel Drears, has also presented a beloved annual concert at Morris-Jumel Mansion. Their concerts feature a close-knit group of likeminded musicians, and a heartfelt selection of standards, bebop classics, spirituals and other special tunes.
Presented in partnership with the Jazz Foundation of America, supported in part by an award from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and by the Howard Gilman Foundation.
