Style, Taste and Class Fashion Series: Afro-Latin Flavor Collection Show 2024

This collection for the Style, Taste and Class Fashion Series for New York Fashion Week will showcase clothing with a bit of Afro-Latin Flavor. This show draws from stage-wear references of popular Latin performers from around the 1950s era.

 

About the artist:

Brooklyn born, New York native, Al-Karim Powell-Darensburg has worked in the fields of Music, Fashion and Entertainment for over 36 years. During this time he has trained models, assisted in developing new designers and worked with numerous recording artist and celebrities in the capacity of artist development director, manager, consultant and advisor.

Mr. Powell-Darensburg has had the unique privilege of building the first wardrobe department for Black Entertainment Television (BET), where he worked as the VERY FIRST fashion stylist (under fashion director Llewellyn Jenkins) for all on-air personalities and performing guests. While there, he also worked for the Children’s and Entertainment Television division, specifically on the “Teen Summit” television show.

As a visual merchandiser, he has created scenes, set designs and campaigns for stores such as Macy’s, The Hecht Company, Benetton and many smaller boutiques throughout Washington, D.C.

Over the years he has perfected his talents of music, photography, make-up artistry and fashion styling. He attended both the world-renowned Howard University, with a concentration in music and Parsons School of Design where he graduated its famed Fashion Design program. He is currently a celebrity stylist/fashion designer and film/tv wardrobe designer. As well, he is an Executive Producer for his first Off-Broadway play entitled: The Last Hour written by J. Marshall Evans.
