James E. McAfee Jr. Young Leaders Music Technology Initiative

May 15, 2024

The James E. McAfee, Jr. Young Leaders Technology Initiative is an immersive technology-based music education experience for High School students from across New York City.  The program will take place over the summer of 2024 and provide over 20 hours of technical education, mentorship and on-the job training in music technology, live sound mixing, and working with digital audio workstations.

The program will continue throughout the fall of 2024 with paid on-the-job mentorship and practicum in live sound production and engineering at the Museum. We will continue with quarterly check-ins that offer support for next steps in career development. Our goal is that students will be prepared to assist on live audio and studio recordings by the end of the experience. After the completion of the program, the participants will be offered internships at the Museum to continue to build their skills training and experience in music technology.

This program will take place on selected Tuesdays in July and August 2024.

This program is made possible with the support from the estate of James E. McAfee Jr., a jazz fan and long time supporter of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem.
